This is where the rubber meets the road, kids. I've completed the classroom part of the STNA program at my community college. I have completed day one of clilnicals and have two days left. I have words.

STNA stands for "State Tested Nursing Assistant" and is the profession, in Ohio, that used to be "CNA" (Certified Nurse Aide). I was one of those in the eighties, for the local hospital and then in the nineties I was one for a local nursing home, but didn't take the state certification test -- I quit the nursing home before the test time came. It would have made more sense to keep my certification updated, even if I wasn't working in that capacity, but kids -- you know? Who thinks logically when you're young? or under pressure?

It seems the degree and certification has been channelled, at least 'round these parts, to careers in nursing home or rehabilitation facilities. That was ok with me, as long as I could work in a rehab facility, not a "nursing home". I get too attached, too confused, too stressed and end up making enemies of my co-workers because I don't believe in the system. I made several enemies yesterday. I will have to sort out the details before I share, though, as I am bound by professional and ethical standards and laws. But know this -- things have not changed much since I worked in a nursing home in the nineties...but it's way past time to change.

I'm gonna go down seeing about those changes.

i send great big friend love and promise to catch up reading your posts, my friends who i love with all my heart. meanwhile, i have two more clinical days and two more old-job-office days to go and then i can think straight...but would you please keep these in your heart and prayers: those confined to rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes, long-term care facilities AND THOSE WHO PROVIDE ANY KIND OF CARE IN THESE FACILITIES. please? i will share more soon -- AND get back to "Let Us Pray" -- believe me, been doing more than usual of THAT!!!

Friend love and hugs, loree

  2. I'm glad it is almost over for you. I will keep you in prayer. Let me encourage you to always stand up for the truth. You said you made enemies, don't worry too much about that either if you are right. God Bless.
