(Fasten thy seatbelts, methinks a rant is on...)
I don't like Christmas one bit. There are not many holidays I do appreciate one bit. (I LOVE THANKSGIVING -- EVERY DAY IS THANKSGIVING DAY!)
Give me a break, retailers! Beside the amazing displays of back-to-school supplies there are ALREADY costumes and gore-galore and orange, brown and black wrapped candies EVERYWHERE! I loathe that fall celebration completely! And before that day is FINALLY past, here comes the joyeaux noel stuff. PUH-LEEZE! I'm staggering from preaching "HARVEST CELEBRATION" instead of halloween and you're pushing Ol' Saint Nick on me already!?!?
I'm sure we can all agree with marketing (most times) being 'over-the-top' -- ok, ok. But add to that the horrendous pressures and stresses put on people by the "gift-giving" season. BAH HUMBUG! "We spend too much money that we don't have on too many things that we don't need to impress too many people we don't even like"...'er somethin' like that -- I borrowed that -- I promise to find out who said it first.
I've seen people go into debt for Christmas gifts when they were behind on utility payments. I've seen people fret over keeping the spending equal on each person in the family they buy for. I've seen mad dashes at crazy hours to get that one special thing, only to have the recipient force a half-smile and throw it aside upon receiving. (Which, by the way, should not matter -- it is the giving that matters...) and on and on ad nauseum. I hope you see where I am on this.
But then, here comes Christianity to help us see the "reason for the season". Excuse me? REALLY? If I hear "Happy Birthday Jesus" one more time I'm going to cry.
Where did all this come from? Oh, story time, kids -- when I post Part Two.
